Our story

A long time coming

The Bag Hotel didn't start here. It started with a different problem, in a different part of the world — and years of trying to get someone to believe in it.

Where it began

Around 2019, the idea was shared storage infrastructure for farmers and traders in African markets. The problem was specific and painful: low-income traders were losing money every day — produce spoiling overnight because there was nowhere safe to store it, goods stolen when left at the market, and unsold stock carried home on their backs only to be brought back again the next morning. A cycle of loss that a simple, shared, affordable storage solution could break.

We pitched it. We applied for grants. We kept going back. No investors came.

What didn't change

The funding never arrived, but the belief behind the idea never left. Shared infrastructure. Local trusted locations. Accessible pricing. Serving people who are underserved by the systems that exist. That thinking didn't go away — it evolved.

The Bag Hotel

The people we're building for haven't changed. Underserved communities globally — travelers without options, traders without infrastructure, small businesses without the tools that bigger players take for granted. That includes the Guardian locations themselves: small, independent mom and dad businesses in rural and urban towns — cafés, shops, concierges — who earn from every transaction and benefit from every customer who walks through their door. Different problem. Same belief.

You belong here

Whether you need storage or want to become a Guardian location, there's a place for you here.
